Just a reminder that summer is almost over and you should start thinking about stocking up chickens for the long upcoming winter. We will be processing our last chickens on or the middle of October and that will be it until next April. Last year a lot of our customers called after October to order Chicken and we had none to sell. so please start planning your orders for the whole winter before October. We are now selling our chickens at Natures Outlet Stores, one at 3548 Electric road (Rt. 419) and the one at Valley View Mall. So if you miss on Saturday at the farmers markets you can now pick our chickens at both Natures Outlet locations. As most of you know we had my niece Sandy Ramsey as an intern on the farm for summer. Sandy is starting her 2nd year at Carolina State, in Raleigh N.C. She has been accepted into the engineering department and we are all thrilled for her. Thanks again Sandy for all your help this summer and the best of luck with school this year. Once more please get your winter orders together so we can get you enough chickens to carrier over.
Thanks to each and every one of our customers this year. Through you we are " We are replenishing the planet one meal at a time" Thanks so much, G.W. Ramsey
We are up and running at last. I hope all enjoyed winter like it used to be when I was young. We have 600 chickens on the ground at present. For those of you who want to get fresh Chickens our first processing day is Sunday, May 4th. Be sure and bring a cooler with ice and plan to arrive after 1:00 PM. As always if you are interested in volunteering , we get started around 8:00 AM. We are looking to have a great season this year. I have pre-ordered 2,700 chicks to arrive between March and the end of September. we also have added 50 new layers so our egg production should double this year. For those of you who only see us at the markets, we will be adding fresh grown produce to our stalls as it comes in. We look forward to seeing all of you in the near future and hope your spring is a happy one.
Summer is over. We will be processing our last 200 chickens of the 2013 season this Sunday September the 15th. It has been another good season. Last year we grew and processed over 1,000 birds this year we are near 1,500. As most of you know we had a tuff time getting chicks this year. It seems China had Avian Flue outbreak and destroyed all there flocks. Came here and bought up all the chicks and eggs they could, making it hard for us to order. I ran out of chickens 2 times. We will for sure place our orders early this coming year. Last call is here. You may want to order extra chickens now as we will be shutting down the end of October through March 2014. It has been a great year and I want to thank each of you for your continued orders.
We plan on processing on Sunday June 16th for those of you who would like to come visit the farm and pick up your chickens as fresh as you can get them. We start processing around 8:30AM for those of you who would like to visit and help out. We sell after 1:30PM, be sure and bring your cooler and ice.
Again, Thanks to all of you for the support you have given us. – G. W. Ramsey
Well its Summer at last. Thanks to all of you who have been supporting us this spring. For those of you who check out our site, and are not familiar with us, you can find us at the Roanoke Farmers Market each Saturday and at the Grandin Co-Op Farmers Market on the 1st and 3rd Saturday and at the Salem Farmers Market on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month. The Roanoke Co-Op has also invited us to sell at their new Farm off of Blue Hills Drive starting this Saturday June the 8th. This will be the first market held on the farm so if you can, come on out and check out their new farm and pick up a chicken.
